The difference between the right and left hemispheres of the brain has less to do with function, and more to do with attention.
The left has narrow, focused attention. The right has broad, open attention.
Ways of Attending: How Our Divided Brain Constructs the World by Iain McGilchrist1 is a good starting place to understand how each type of attention determines what we see.
